WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that it is up to the Syrian people to decide the future of their country and leadership, while Washington and its allies in the Middle Eastern region, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, have called for Assad's resignation.
"Yes, in the sense that we agree… That one of the goals of these negotiations, proximity talks, whatever you want to refer to them as, is to create the modalities for this political transition," Toner stated when asked if the United States and the Kremlin were on the same page with respect to Assad’s future. "Ultimately, it is something for the Syrian people to decide."
