Kremlin Spokesman Says Not Intending to Sue Media Over Offshore Reports

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday he was not planning to sue the media outlets over reports on his wife Tatiana Navka alleged owning of offshore companies, as he has no time to deal with such “defamation.”

“There is nothing for me to challenge there [in court], I don’t want to spend time on this as she [Navka] is not accused of anything, nor am I accused of anything. A lot of defamation is being published, there is not enough time to waste it on that,” Peskov told reporters.

On Sunday, the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung exposed alleged involvement of a number of former and current world leaders, as well as some officials, in offshore schemes by publishing materials it claimed came from Mossack Fonseca, a Panama firm selling offshore companies.

Mossack Fonseca has refused to validate the information contained in the leaks and accused reporters of gaining unauthorized access to its proprietary documents. One of the company founders in an interview with TVN TV channel has said that come documents had been stolen, but refused to specify, which ones.

According to the so-called "Panama Papers" leak, Navka allegedly became the owner of offshore companies.

On Monday, Peskov said that his wife, a figure skating champion, had never owned any offshore companies.
