YEREVAN (Sputnik) — The warring parties traded blame for ceasefire violations a day after it went into effect on Tuesday. The lull in fighting came after three days of deadly clashes that killed dozens on both sides, including civilians.
"Armenia plans to turn to the European Court of Human Rights and various UN organizations," Armenian Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan said in parliament.
She added that actions of Azerbaijani troops over the past few days had been "a violation of numerous international conventions, specifically when it comes to war crimes against the civilian population."
Asked what steps had been taken by justice authorities, Hovhannisyan said they had set up a special working group that would prepare the case.
Nagorno-Karabakh lies within Azerbaijan but is controlled by ethnic Armenians. It was at the heart of an Azeri-Armenian war in the late 1980s and early 1990s that ended in a Russia-mediated ceasefire in 1994.
