MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US Border Patrol agents are taking away possessions from undocumented migrants before deporting them to Mexico, a coalition of US and Mexican advocacy groups claimed in a statement.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Mexico together with other rights organizations filed the administrative complaint with the US Department of Homeland Security claiming that immigrants suspected of being on the US territory without a legal permission were deported without their belongings in 26 cases.
"The U.S. government and its agents erode the rule of law on the Southwest border," the complaint read.
In one case, US border agents allegedly detained a 23-year-old man from Mexico and forced him to sign a form abandoning his rights to his belongings, according to the complaint.
According to the advocates, the migrants were deported by the US authorities to cities in Mexico where they had no acquaintances.
