YEREVAN (Sputnik) — Russia played an important role in achieving ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said Wednesday.
"Russia found itself in an ambivalent position. On the one hand, it is a mediator in the Karabakh settlement issue in the OSCE Minsk Group format. On the other hand, because actions were not directed against Armenia, but against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, it [Russia] did not find itself tied by obligations. In this case, Russia's reaction was that of a mediator. One way or the other, it played an important role in achieving ceasefire," Kocharyan told reporters.
