WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States is unable to confirm at the moment whether Syria’s Su-22 fighter jet was downed by opposition forces, US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner stated on Wednesday.
“I just don’t have any more information to provide in terms of whether we believe it was shot down by the opposition forces,” Toner said in a press briefing.
A spokesman for the Syrian military command told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that Su-22 fighter jet from the Syrian Air Force was downed by militants in the province of Aleppo while conducting military tasks, and they were trying to find out the fate of the pilot.
