The National Investigation Agency of India (NIA) has approached several foreign investigative agencies including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation for assistance in investigating the Pathankot terror attack.
The help of the FBI is required for tracking some cyber footprints that were left by key members of Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) after the attack on the Pathankot airbase. Immediately after the attack, Abdul Rauf, brother of JeM chief Masood Azhar, was seen on a video claiming responsibility on a website "alqalam.com" and "rangonoor.com", both of which were hosted by a US-based domain service provider. NIA is now trying to track payments made for these websites, which were routed through a European country.
The NIA has also appealed to other international agencies concerning the weapons and other equipment, which were seized after the 80-hour gun battle with the terrorists at Pathankot.
The help of these agencies is being sought while a formal response from Pakistan's Joint Investigation Team, which was constituted to investigate Pathankot terror attack, is still awaited.
On 2 January 2016, a heavily armed terrorist group attacked the Pathankot airbase in India. Four terrorists and seven security forces personnel were killed.
