MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Operators at one of Ireland’s 999 emergency call centers in the town of Navan are protesting Thursday against small salaries, local media reported.
The call center workers are calling on local authorities for a 50-cent pay increase for every hour in order to bring their salaries to the living wage standard, which amounts to 11.5 euros ($13.1), The Irish Times said.
The 12-hour strike is set to end at 8 p.m. local time (19:00 GMT), according to the Communications Workers Union.
The action follows the pledge of three 999 centers in Dublin, Navan and Ballyshannon to stop carrying out additional work outside their contracts from April 8 to May 6 in order to persuade employers to increase their salaries.
