ANKARA (Sputnik) – The Turkish Air Force carried out the latest series of strikes on the targets of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, the Turkish General Staff said Thursday.
The airstrikes were launched on the basis of intelligence data about the PKK hideouts in northern Iraqi region of Zap in the mountainous Qandil area. A total of 10 F-16 and F-4 fighter jets took part in the operation, according to the military.
Kurds in northern Iraq have been subjected to numerous Turkish airstrikes since a ceasefire between Ankara and the PKK broke down in July 2015. The PKK, considered to be a terrorist organization by Ankara, seeks to create a Kurdish state in parts of Turkey and Iraq.
