US Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton and her Republican major rival Donald Trump is leading in Maryland ahead of primaries, a new poll revealed on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton is ahead of her rival candidate Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders while Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump is leading his contenders in Maryland ahead of primaries, a new poll revealed on Thursday.

Clinton is leading Sanders 55 percent to 40 percent, according to a Washington Post-University of Maryland poll.

Among the Republican candidates, Trump is leading with 41 percent, trailed by Ohio Governor John Kasich with 31 percent, who is followed by Texas Senator Ted Cruz at 22 percent.

The poll ialso ndicated that if general election were held in Maryland today, and the candidates were Clinton and Trump, 63 percent would vote for Clinton, while 28 percent would cast their vote for Trump.

Maryland voters will head to primary elections on April 26.

The survey was conducted over the phone between March 30 and April 3 among 1,503 Maryland residents.
