BAKU (Sputnik) – The Armenian Armed Forces have violated the ceasefire in the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh 110 times, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry press spokesman Vagif Dargyakhly said Friday.
“Along the entire line of contact in Karabakh, the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire regime 110 times. Shots were fired on both positions of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and on villages. The Armenian side is grossly violating the ceasefire on the line of contact,” Kargyakhly told RIA Novosti.
“Taking into consideration the operative situation, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces returned fire 114 times against Armenian Armed Forces positions. Over the last 24 hours, the ceasefire was violated 110 times [by Armenia],” Dargyakhly told RIA Novosti.
Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on an immediate ceasefire on Tuesday, after almost four days of intense fighting in the disputed Azerbaijan's region of Nagorno-Karabakh with predominantly Armenian population. The parties have since accused each other of multiple ceasefire violations.
Nagorno-Karabakh lies within Azerbaijan but is controlled by ethnic Armenians. It was at the heart of an Azeri-Armenian war in the late 1980s and early 1990s that ended in a Russia-mediated ceasefire in 1994.
