TASHKENT (Sputnik) — Terrorists predominantly use women as suicide bombers in their violent activities, First Deputy Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Sergei Smirnov said Friday.
"The latest events… show that generally terrorists use in their subversive activities and terrorist attacks women-suicide bombers, the wives of the killed or detained leaders of the militant groups… [Terrorists] also use children," Smirnov told reporters following a session of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (RATS SCO) Council.
Countries across the globe have been boosting their security measures following a series of recent terrorist attacks, including attacks on Brussels on March 22 and on Paris on November 13 and a continuing violence with the use of suicide bombers in the crisis-torn countries, such as Afghanistan or the Middle Eastern states.
The SCO is a political, economic and military alliance that includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The bloc's primary goals include strengthening mutual trust and good-neighborly relations among the members and encouraging effective cooperation in a wide range of areas, including countering terrorism among others.
