NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – The services of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation have been restored several hours after a powerful earthquake hit Afghanistan, triggering tremors in India, Pakistan, Nepal and other neighboring states, a Delhi Metro Rail Service (DMRC) official told Sputnik Sunday.
"All the Delhi Metro service stopped at 4:00 p.m. [10:30 GMT] when the earthquake [was] felt. Now Delhi Metro has been restored," the official stated.
As a precautionary measure a pilot train is running all over the metro service to check any possible damage, he added.
The earthquake that struck Afghanistan was initially measured as 7.1-magnitude, however, the US Geological Survey later estimated it at 6.6.
