MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In March, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that Damascus would lean primarily on Russia, China and Iran in rebuilding the country after five years of destruction.
"The prime minister underscored that we were brothers in the armed struggle against international terrorism, and we will be brothers in the restoration of the republic. Priority will be given, first of all, to Russia and Russian companies, as well as other friendly countries," Alexander Yushchenko, a member of the Russian lower house and a member of the delegation currently visiting Damascus, told RIA Novosti.
According to the lawmaker, Halqi recalled that many Russian companies are already operating in Syria, including those engaged in offshore exploration.
