"I believe the mine clearance issue is so big in Syria that it would be right for the international community to offer its contribution and join the effort of the Russian Armed Forces. We have already addressed the United Nations, appealed to the specialized agencies and bodies of the organization, proposed the specialized centers for demining to join the demining effort of the Armed Forces in the country," Antonov told the RT broadcaster.
Liberation of the historic city of Palmyra is a turning point in the anti-terrorist operation in Syria, he added.
Palmyra had been under the control of Daesh militants for almost a year, before being liberated by the Syrian army in late March.
The city, located in Syria’s Homs province, was first documented in the early second millennium BC. It is a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.
