Russia is exporting military equipment both to Armenia and Azerbaijan under existing contracts while respecting the balance of interests, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Rogozin stressed that either the United States or other countries would immediately take Russia's place if Moscow decides to stop arms exports to the conflicting sides.

"We are selling weaponry to Armenia and Azerbaijan respecting the balance of interests," Rogozin said in the Arsenal program aired by Echo Moskvy radio.

The violence in Nagorno-Karabakh, a breakaway region of Azerbaijan with a predominantly Armenian population, escalated on April 2. Following three days of heavy fighting, the conflicting sides agreed a ceasefire in the disputed region that came into force at noon last Tuesday.

However, Yerevan and Baku have since accused each other of multiple ceasefire violations.
