Putin Has Made No Decisions on Ukrainian National Savchenko - Kremlin
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Savchenko, who is currently serving a 22-year jail term in Russia for her part in killing Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine, was reported to be refusing food and water in protest against her detention.

"We proceed from the assumption that the Federal Penitentiary Service is monitoring the well-being of their inmates and…if there are concerns [about Savchenko’s health] she will receive assistance," Peskov said.

"We do not exactly have information that she is on a hunger strike, reports from her and her lawyer are very controversial. One day they claim it is a hunger strike, the next day it is not, one day it is a dry hunger strike, the next day it is not dry anymore," Peskov noted adding that checking on prisoners "is, frankly speaking, not our responsibility."

Savchenko was sentenced in late March and refused to appeal the ruling, but Ukrainian authorities have been trying to organize her transfer, according to her lawyers.
