Direct Moscow-Muscat Flights Could Boost Bilateral Contacts - Lawmaker
09:26 GMT 12.04.2016 (Updated: 09:46 GMT 12.04.2016) Planned flights between Moscow and the Omani capital of Muscat would activate wide-ranging bilateral contacts, speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament Valentina Matvienko said Tuesday.
MUSCAT (Sputnik) – Speaking on the second day of the Russian Federation Council delegation’s two-day visit to Oman, Matvienko welcomed the Oman Air flagship carrier’s plan to launch direct flights to and from Moscow next year.
"This is a very important area. If accomplished, then of course contacts of the most varied kinds will become more active. Oman is an important hub for our air carriers and direct service will of course intensify contacts," Matvienko said.

The senior lawmaker acknowledged that a lack of direct flights hindered tourist, business and cultural exchanges.
She noted that Oman’s and Russia's positions on principal international issues "are either similar or coincide," adding that during the talks the sides touched on the most pressing regional matters.
