The UNESCO Executive Board unanimously approved on Tuesday a Russia-drafted proposal on the role of the organization in restoring the ancient city of Palmyra and other Syria's historic sites.

PARIS (Sputnik) — The 199th session of the UNESCO Executive Board is underway in Paris on April 4-15.

"From a practical point of view, while strongly condemning the deliberate destruction of the cultural heritage, we express our readiness to unite efforts and means to restore and preserve Palmyra and other Syrian sites on the World Heritage list," Russia's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Eleonora Mitrofanova said presenting the draft document.
