WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States and its allies targeted sites Daesh near two towns in Syria and seven positions in Iraq on Tuesday, the US Central Command said in a press release.
“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted two strikes using attack and fighter aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets. Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted seven strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq,” the release said on Wednesday.
In Syria, coalition forces hit a Daesh fighting position near the town of al-Hawl and a tactical unit near Mara, the release explained.
Reports of damage near Tal Afar, however, were inconclusive, the report noted.
Daesh is a terrorist group that claims to have established an Islamic caliphate on the territory under its control in Syria and Iraq, and that has led or inspired attacks in Europe. The group is outlawed in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
