Either Putin to Visit Argentina, or Macri to Visit Russia in 2017
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Malcorra said that either Either Russian President Vladimir Putin would visit Argentina, or his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri would visit Russia next year.

"Russia is a strategic partner [of Argentina], this was confirmed by the two presidents and there is a series of very specific projects that correspond to the needs of development that we see. In particular, we are very focused on working in the provinces," Malcorra said.

According to Malcorra, Argentina’s Neuquen prvince has very strong ties with Russia through its Chihuido hydroelectric power station, and there are additional opportunities for Russian companies in the country’s Vaca Muerta oil field.

In April, then-Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The sides signed several cooperation deals and confirmed that bilateral ties between Moscow and Buenos Aires were strengthening.

In October, Putin said Russia would invest some $2 billion in the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in Argentina.
