MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A source familiar with the matter told RIA Novosti earlier in the day that six Turkish companies reached and agreement and that an announcement would be forthcoming imminently, without elaborating further.
Executives in two Turkish companies confirmed to the Anadolu news service later that an agreement with Gazprom has been reached, but not yet signed. The Russian exporter would reportedly resume full natural gas supplies to six Turkish companies at undisclosed discount rates.
The discount is said to be lower than the 10.25 percent previously provided before Gazprom reduced supplies and effectively canceled the discount this year.
"It is less but we cannot give more details as it is a confidential agreement between the two parties," the sources said.
Enerco Enerji, Bosphorus Gaz, Avrasya Gaz, Shell Turkey, Bati Hatti and Kibar Enerji cooperate with Gazprom in addition to Turkey’s state-owned Botas. The companies in question reportedly import 10 billion cubic meters of Gazprom's gas a year out of a total of 27 billion imported by Turkey from Russia. Turkish companies receive Russian gas via the Trans-Balkan pipeline, while Botas receives Russian gas via the Blue Stream pipeline.
Gazprom Management Committee Deputy Chairman Alexander Medvedev told RIA Novosti earlier the company was fulfilling all its contractual obligations with Botas.
