DAMASCUS (Sputnik) – Over 7,000 polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. in Syria with police, the army, the national guard and militias providing protection.
Some 3,500 candidates are vying for 250 seats in the country’s parliament.
Voting has begun in the predominantly Arab Christian district, which is just several hundred feet away from the front line of the divided city. Observers from various candidates and local organizations are monitoring the elections.
