ULAN BATOR (Sputnik) – The European Union is encouraging Kiev to sabotage the fulfillment of the Minsk-2 agreement on Ukrainian reconciliation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.
"On the backdrop of the Ukrainian events, the European Union has frozen work of the dialogue mechanism with the Russian side, has imposed sanctions against Russian individuals and entities, and is pushing Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements. But Russia isn’t a party in the agreements of the conflict, the main responsibilities are on Kiev," Lavrov said while delivering a lecture at the Mongolian Foreign Ministry.
"In taking such a contradictory position, the European Union is only encouraging the Kiev authorities to go unpunished by sabotaging the fulfillment of the Minsk-2 agreement. To break the negative trend, it is necessary to give up the flawed practice of unilateral actions," Lavrov said. "There will be no 'business as usual' when they tried to impose agreements and cooperation schemes on us."
The Minsk deal was struck in February 2015, worked out by Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France and signed by Kiev and the Donbas militia.
Both warring parties have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce despite agreeing to the ceasefire deal.
