BAKU/YEREVAN (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, State Commission of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War issued a statement saying that the Armenian side refused to provide information about the fate of the missing Azerbaijani servicemen to Baku and did not take appropriate steps for their return from the conflict zone.
"The Armenian side did not refuse to cooperate on this matter, and furthermore has proposed an initative [on the issue]," Armenian Defense Ministry’s spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan told RIA Novosti.
According to the spokesman, Armenia had twice appealed to the Azerbaijani side proposing that Baku conducts its own search of the missing, before the ceasefire was reached.
“However, they never replied to our initiative,” Hovhannisyan added.
The latest wave of violence in Azerbaijan's breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, mostly inhabited by Armenians, intensified on April 2, leading to multiple casualties before Armenia and Azerbaijan reached a shaky ceasefire deal three days later.
