DUBAI (Sputnik) – At least 18 people were killed last week in Saudi Arabia due to mudslides caused by heavy rains in parts of the kingdom, the General Directorate of Civil Defense said in a statement Thursday.
"Eighteen people died because of the rains and mudslides… in [the Saudi cities of] Riyadh, Mecca, [the province of] Asir, [the cities of] Jazan and Najran," the statement reads.
It was added in the statement that country's civil defense rescued 915 people.
According to the statement, the civil defense body advises all Saudi citizens to adhere to the safety measures introduced because of the ongoing weather conditions.
