GENEVA (Sputnik) – The recent parliament elections in Syria are a routine event that is unlikely to affect the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, a member of the Syrian opposition group formed at meetings in Moscow and Cairo told Sputnik on Thursday.
"This is a routine event. I believe that it will have no impact on what is happening in Geneva. And that is because UN's Resolution 2254 states the need to create a transitional authority that will deal with constitutional amendments, after which parliamentary and presidential elections must be held within 18 months," Jihad Makdissi said.
"New elections will be held if we are able to complete the political work we are currently doing in Geneva," he added.
