ULAN BATOR (Sputnik) – Moscow is hoping for results from the intra-Syrian talks currently underway in Geneva, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.
“We are hoping for results of the intra-Syrian talks that are being renewed in Geneva at the current time,” Lavrov said while delivering a lecture at the Mongolian Foreign Ministry.
According to Lavrov, thanks to Russian aviation operations in Syria, favorable conditions were created to “proceed with inclusive intra-Syrian dialogue and an actual peace process in the interests of providing a political settlement to the conflict under the auspices of the UN and in the interests of keeping Syria a united, whole, sovereign, and secular state.”
Participants of the Syrian peace process, including Russia, have repeatedly stressed that reconciliation talks will fail to reach a political settlement unless the Syrian Kurds are allowed to participate.
