UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The Counter Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) needs additional funding from UN member states to carry out its mission of coordinating national efforts to halt the radicalization of Muslim youth on social media, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the Security Council on Thursday.
Ban noted an earlier call by the Security Council for international cooperation with the task force’s Capacity Building Implementation plan, which includes 37 mutually reinforcing project proposals to be carried out by 12 CTITF entities.
"The Security Council also called on member states to provide the needed financial assistance," Ban stated.
To stem the flow of foreign terrorists, Ban explained, the United Nations and member states need to intervene at all levels, from the initial radicalization of young Muslims to their travel and return.
Ban also called for greater international efforts to choke off sources of terrorist funding.
