"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted four strikes using attack and fighter aircraft against Daesh targets," the statement said on Thursday. "Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, ground-attack, and fighter aircraft against Daesh targets."
Coalition forces in Syria launched two airstrikes near the city of al-Hawl, where they produced inconclusive results. Additionally, one airstrike destroyed an Daesh pump truck near al-Raqqa, and another airstrike near Mara hit an Daesh tactical unit and destroyed a fighting position.
In Iraq, the coalition carried out 17 airstrikes near seven cities, including Mosul, where they destroyed four Daesh assembly areas, a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) and an Daesh storage facility. Additional strikes near the city of Qayyarah hit an Daesh headquarters and a financial center.
The US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq against the Islamic State, also known as or Daesh, since summer 2014. On Wednesday, US President Barack Obama said the number of Daesh fighters in Iraq and Syria are at their lowest levels in two years.
