WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US government has publicly identified three brothers — Job, Ismael, and Ruben Laredo — as major drug traffickers under the Narcotics Kingpin Act, the Department of the Treasury said in a press release on Thursday.
"Today… Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated brothers Job, Ismael, and Ruben Laredo Donjuan, as well as the Laredo Drug Trafficking Organization (Laredo DTO), as Specially Designated Narcotics Traffickers," the release said.
The Laredo organization is responsible for contributing to the drug epidemic and the rise of heroin abuse in the United States, the Treasury Department noted.
OFAC also designated five other Mexican nationals for their criminal activities in support of the Laredo drug trafficking organization.
All assets based in the United States of the designated individuals are frozen, and US persons are prohibited from engaging in transactions with them, the release added.
