Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said that Armenian diplomats around the world have been holding meetings in the countries they are posted in to provide the respective countries with information about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

YEREVAN (Sputnik) — Armenia has informed the relevant international institutions about Azerbaijan's violations of humanitarian law in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said Friday.

On Thursday, the Armenian authorities launched a criminal investigation into Azerbaijan's alleged violations of international humanitarian law during the recent escalation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"We have sent relevant documents to all the international institutions — the United Nations, the OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe], the Council of Europe and the European Union. The necessary documents about the violation of humanitarian law by Azerbaijan have been distributed in the United Nations," Kocharyan told reporters.

He added that Armenian diplomats around the world have been holding meetings in the countries they are posted in to provide the respective countries with information about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On April 2, tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani breakaway region with a predominantly Armenian population, escalated. Baku and Yerevan accused each other of provoking the hostilities, however, the sides succeeded in reaching a ceasefire agreement on April 5.
