As the Democracy Spring mass civil disobedience movement enters its fifth day, sit-ins and mass arrests continue as celebrities join the demonstrations.

Actress Rosario Dawson joined protesters calling for voting reform at the US Capitol, and was arrested by Capitol police while doing a second round of sit-ins. Over 700 people have been arrested since demonstrations began on Monday, with more expected on Friday.

With each day focusing on a unique issue, Friday is centers on several topics, including climate and student issues. Earlier demonstrations emphasized labor issues, racial justice, and the elderly.

The movement is also addressing the DC statehood issue, seeking Congressional representation for the District.

"It was gratifying to see the national democracy movement finally address the inequality of DC's denial of democratic rights," Senator Paul Strauss, who leads the fight for DC statehood, told Sputnik.

While the Democracy Spring sit-ins have already resulted in a record number of arrests, the protests have received very little coverage in the mainstream media.
