MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck on Friday near the regional capital of Kumamoto on Japan's Kyushu island, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported.
The new quake hit the same area as yesterday's 6.5-magnitude quake that destroyed dozens of buildings and killed at least nine people.
According to Japan's Meteorological Service, a tsunami warning in the region has been issued.
