Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the State Department, without troubling itself with evidence, "actually slipped to unfounded accusations against Russia. The assessments included in the report are clear subjectivity, prejudice and bias."

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The US State Department’s report on non-proliferation of arms can hardly be taken seriously, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday, calling the anti-Moscow accusations in it unsubstantiated.

Earlier this week, the US State Department released a report titled Report on Adherence to and Compliance With Arms Control, Nonproliferation, and Disarmament Agreements and Commitments. In the document, Washington accused Moscow of several violations, including Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe among others, as well as possible violations of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty and the Biological And Toxin Weapons Convention.

"Even a cursory analysis of the report shows that it can hardly be called a serious document claiming to reflect the real situation in the field of arms control and non-proliferation," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry stressed that the State Department, without troubling itself with evidence, "actually slipped to unfounded accusations against Russia. The assessments included in the report are clear subjectivity, prejudice and bias."

Relations between Russia and the United States went downhill in 2014, when Washington, joined by the EU accused Moscow of fueling the Ukrainian crisis and imposed several rounds of sanctions as a punitive measure. The Russian authorities have refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive.
