STOCKHOLM (Sputnik) — Some 60 people were involved in riots that took place in a refugee camp near the town of Boden in northern Sweden, local media reported Friday citing police officials.
"At least 60 people were involved in these riots, 15 were particularly active," police spokesman Thomas Shaufele told the NSD newspaper adding that riots started with a minor brawl.
The police added that they had detained a man, who instigated the fight, and was reportedly in a condition of narcotic or alcoholic intoxication. The detained can be charged with vandalism.
The European countries are currently struggling to manage a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people leaving conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa to ask for asylum in Europe. The major part of refugees are seeking to arrive in wealthier EU states such as Sweden or Germany.
