Sputnik, which is the foreign language news site in the Rossiya Segodnya media holding, was blocked in Turkey on Thursday evening.
Earlier in the day, local media reported that Turkey's Golbasi District court in the Ankara province had approved a decision of the Department of Telecommunications and Communication to block access to the Sputnik website.
Sputnik's bureau in Turkey has not been notified of the date and place of the hearing, where the issue of blocking the agency's website in Turkey was discussed.
In January 2015, the Turkish prime minister and other ministers received the right to block any type of resource in the Internet without a court order. The ministers may demand the Turkish Telecommunications Department and providers to block sites or delete content within four hours after receiving a notice of "national security, protection of social order, or for the prevention of crime."
