MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the poll commissioned by the SVT broadcaster, the number of Swedish citizens who support the EU membership decreased from last autumn's 59 percent to current 39 percent.
As many as 21 percent of respondents label Sweden's EU membership as a "bad idea," while the rest of those answering the survey failed to provide a certain position on the issue.
Experts link the results of the survey to the ongoing refugee crisis, the broadcaster reported.
The European countries are currently struggling to manage a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people leaving conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa to ask for asylum in Europe. The major part of refugees are seeking to arrive in wealthier EU states such as Sweden or Germany.
According to Sweden’s migration agency, the country is expected to receive up to 140,000 asylum applications in 2016.
