GENEVA (Sputnik) — The United States should shoulder responsibility and use its influence to help settle the conflict in Syria, head of the Syrian opposition's High Negotiations Committee Riad Hijab said Tuesday.
"We want the US to shoulder responsibility and to use its influence as a superpower. We need action on the ground. Allies of the regime are fighting on the ground with it. The truce can't be sustained by preventing rebels from getting weapons. On the contrary, they must be strengthened," Hijab told reporters.
"We hope our friends in the US will continue supporting us and will do what the allies of the regime are doing," he added.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that the CIA and its regional partners are preparing Plan B in Syria that includes delivery of various types of anti-aircraft weapons to Syrian rebels. The CIA declined to comment on the report.
