In the alpine mountain resort of Sheregesh in Kemerovo Oblast, over a thousand young women participated in the swimwear based downhill skiing and snowboarding festival called “Grelka Fest”.

Apart from the downhill descent from Zelyonaya mountain, the festival also included famous DJ performances, a Holi celebration and a beauty contest.

The festival is the main attraction for bikini clad Siberian girls and guys in shorts. The bikini clad  descent of 2013 was entered into the Guinness Book of Records. According to this year’s statistics more than a 1,000 people took part in the downhill skiing event, setting a new record.

“The descent from Zelyonaya Mountain was successful. We started at 12:00 local time. Total number of people who registered was 1,488 but actually just a little more than 1,000 took part in skiing. The descent was around 500 meters. A representative of Russian Book of Records, Stanislav Konenko, is present here and he has verified the record,” one of the event organizers said.

It is reported that the air in Sheregesh on Saturday warmed up to + 15 ° C, so the participants of the event were fairly comfortable in their bikinis and shorts. The record breaking mass descent for Grelka Fest was recorded on video.

Earlier this month, Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi had a similar skiing event during carnival at Rosa Khutor resort. Around 1,000 people showed up. The carnival in Rosa Khutor is called the BoogelWoogel.

Athough the BoogelWoogel carnival was as glamorous as Sheregesh festival, the latter set a new record in terms of participants’ turnout.
