"In the coming days, maybe even hours we are waiting for reports that the European Commission, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will sign and hand legislative proposals on visa-free regime to the European Parliament and the European Council. I am due to hold a phone conversation with him tomorrow on this issue in particular," the Ukrainian president said Tuesday at a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
Ukraine has long sought a visa-free regime with the European Union. The introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens was stated to be a priority for the new authorities in Kiev, after former President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted in February 2014.
On March 17, Juncker said that the latest reforms in Ukraine allowed the European Commission to make proposals for visa liberalization in April. According to Juncker, the bloc and Ukraine have a shared interest in making it easier for their citizens to travel to each other’s countries.
