BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Hague Court annuled the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s earlier ruling against Russia for $50 billion payment to shareholders since it was not in that particular court’s competency.
"The decision may be challenged at two levels — the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. We would not be surprised if the former Yukos shareholders challenge the decision, but they can do it only on the grounds, which are indicated in this [Wednesday's Hague Court] decision," Bassiri told RIA Novosti.
In July 2014, the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled unanimously to award the former shareholders of the now defunct Yukos company $50 billion to be paid by the Russian Federation.
In June 2015, France and Belgium froze Russian assets in line with the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
