"The visit is very important in terms of discussing the entire range of Russian-Israeli relations, which are quite full and versatile, as well as in light of Abbas' recent visit and initiatives that have been voiced recently in regard to Middle East settlement," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
He added that the sides are unlikely to sign any documents during the Israeli leader's Moscow trip.
During Abbas' visit, the Palestinian leader discussed with Putin the international conference on Palestinian reconciliation proposed by France.
In a recent interview with Sputnik, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Maliki called the timing of both visits a "coincidence."
In late January, then-French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius outlined plans to arrange an international conference in the coming months to help resume the stalled Israeli-Palestinian talks, stressing that France would be prepared to recognize Palestinian statehood if the talks yielded no results.
