MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Mexico’s state-owned Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) company has confirmed that three of its workers died in an explosion at its oil facility in the state of Veracruz.
"So far, unfortunately, three workers have been confirmed dead," Pemex said on Twitter.
According to the company, 136 workers were injured in the Wednesday accident.
Earlier, Pemex confirmed via Twitter that 58 of its workers were injured in the accident. In an earlier statement, the company said that 30 injuries were reported after the accident.
Pemex CEO José Antonio González Anaya headed the site of the accident to coordinate the emergency response, the company said in its statement.
In a late Wednesday post on its official Twitter page, Pemex said that the fire at the oil facility has been contained.
In February, a fire broke out on a Pemex offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, injuring several workers and leading to the death of two people. In April 2015, four people died and over a dozen were injured after a fire on the same oil rig.
