The United Kingdom will continue to engage with its international partners to ensure progress in setting peace in Syria, the UK Foreign Office (FCO) told Sputnik Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader Halqi said that the United Kingdom, along with France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, are attempting to destroy Syria’s infrastructure and its economy, and are arming terrorists in the country because they have no desire to move the political settlement forward.

"All sides, especially the Assad regime and its backers, must show their commitment to the process and the UK will continue to engage with our international partners to push for progress," an FCO press officer told Sputnik.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting several opposition factions and militant groups. The conflict has significantly damaged the country's economy and caused a humanitarian disaster.
