WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Some 70 percent of the funds have been spend on the US Air Force operations, while the US Army and Navy received 13 and 11 percent accordingly. The United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) received about 8 percent of the funding, according to the Pentagon.
"As of March 31, 2016, the total cost of operations related to ISIL [Daesh] since kinetic operations started on August 8, 2014, is $7 billion and the average daily cost is $11.6 million for 602 days of operations," the update stated.
The US-led coalition of some 60 nations has been carrying out strikes against Daesh in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014, but without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
Daesh is a designated terrorist organization outlawed in numerous countries, including the United States and Russia.
