Obama, who is in Britain for a three-day visit, urged Britain on Thursday to stick together with other EU member states and warned that supporting the Leave campaign at the June 23 referendum would reduce UK’s global influence.
"For the United States to tell us in the UK that we must surrender control of so much of our democracy – it is a breathtaking example of the principle of do-as-I-say-but-not-as-I-do," Johnson said, adding it was "incoherent" and "downright hypocritical."
In two months, the United Kingdom will vote on whether to remain part of the European Union or reestablish its sovereignty. Supporters of UK exit from the bloc argue that EU membership has eroded Britain’s independence to make laws, direct its economy and control its borders, while opponents warn that leaving the EU could leave the country’s economy in shambles.
