US Lieutenant commander Jeremiah Daley, in charge of a Cyclone-class Navy patrol boat in the Persian Gulf, is under investigation after a February survey revealed that his crew had no trust in his leadership, a Navy report obtained by the Associated Press read.
Sailors revealed that their commander slept drunk on a bench at a port in Dubai while on duty, had “surprisingly” close associations with some of the crewmembers, and failed to report badly needed repairs for the vessel, including the engines and the fire-suppression system.
According to the report, one of the sailors claimed that Daley’s demeanor was the “worst” he had seen in an almost three-decade career.
Daley is also accused of making “false statements" to superiors, the report reads.
On March 12, Daley was removed from the ship for "poor performance” and “multiple lapses of personal integrity." He is currently on leave.
The accused told AP that the report has "good number of things are 100 percent not true" and promised to challenge the allegations. An investigation is ongoing.
