MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In an article published earlier in the day, Obama, who is currently on a three-day visit to the United Kingdom, called on the country to stick together with other EU member states and warned that supporting the Leave campaign would reduce its global influence.
"Of course it is the interference with the independent country’s affairs. I truly hope his interference won’t convince anybody to vote for the status quo," Matt Ellery, a research executive of the campaign, said, asked how Obama’s comments may influence undecided British voters.

According to Ellery, the United Kingdom staying in the bloc is solely in the interests of the establishment, not its citizens. The official explained that the benefits for the country’s government in staying in the European Union include paying little tax, a possibility of landing a job of a European Commissioner, and shifting the blame on the bloc should something go wrong.

UK nationals are set to vote on June 23 in a referendum on the country's EU membership, after Prime Minister David Cameron and the leaders of the 27 other EU member states reached a deal in February to grant the United Kingdom a special status within the bloc.
According to a poll by the TNS market research company published Wednesday, the number of Brexit supporters almost equals the number of opponents (34 percent against 38) with the rest still undecided.
