"There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body at all," Olsen said. "We have no reason to believe at this point that this was a suicide."
The sheriff also clarified that Prince was home alone at the time of his death.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
Reports surfaced on Thursday that Prince was rushed to a hospital in Moline, Illinois shortly after his final concert in Atlanta, Georgia last week. The reports suggest that the incident was related to a drug overdose. It remains unclear whether the emergency room visit was related to his death six days later.
Sheriff Olsen did stress that while all officers carry narcan in the event of a drug overdose, such a shot was never administered.
The singer and multi-instrumentalist was found dead on Thursday morning. As soon as news of his death broke, social media was filled with remembrances of the artist's life and work.
"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," the artist's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed to Sputnik.
